From May 20 to 21, 2025, the developer team at UDS GmbH took part in the Autodesk DevCon in Amsterdam. The two-day event provided in-depth insights into the latest technologies, trends, and challenges facing the construction and architecture industries. The focus, primarily on AI, sustainability, and innovative technologies, provided valuable motivation for continued progress at UDS.
The DevCon was an enriching experience for the team, which will remain in their memories both professionally and personally. A particular highlight was the workshop “Developing AI Pipelines for Reliable, Outcome-Based BIM,” which not only provided insights into AI integration in BIM systems but also offered inspiration for future projects and the use of AI in our working environment. Gabriel Amo-Takyi, software developer at UDS, said: "This workshop showed me how great a benefit AI in combination with BIM can be. It was a valuable preview of what I can achieve in the future at UDS with my knowledge and experience in AI." The topic of sustainability, a trending global concern, was brought to the forefront at the DevCon, further reinforcing its importance to the UDS team – the responsibility of developers to integrate environmentally friendly solutions as early as the planning phase was particularly well received.
Another exciting topic was the application of generative AI, especially in connection with 3D data models. These technologies enable interaction with digital twins and ask specific questions in natural language. “The ability to ask questions about digital twins in natural language and let the AI interact with the model is a revolutionary development,” said Thomas Martin, Managing Director of UDS GmbH. In addition to the technical aspects, the exchange with other participants and long-standing UDS partners Autodesk, TD Synnex, and TechSoft 3D was also particularly interesting and valuable.
The social aspect was not neglected either, for example at the sociable foosball table, which sparked many interesting conversations. Leonard Huster, software developer at UDS, emphasized: “The 10-person foosball table was not only fun, but also promoted exchange with other participants and created valuable contacts.” Away from DevCon, Amsterdam itself provided an attractive backdrop for the event. The historic venue, combined with a leisurely boat trip through the canals, rounded off the experience.
Overall, DevCon was a complete success and provided numerous ideas for future projects and developments at UDS. The team returned with lots of new ideas and is already looking forward to participating again next year.
